Why people use SEO?

People use SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to drive more visitors to their website. SEO is the process of optimizing the visibility of a website in search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing and etc.) via the unpaid search result. How it actually works? If it’s still unknown to you, you must start learning it today. Because, this is not a new concept. It actually started in 1990s and it is getting more common now.

How SEO works?

Think of this situation: when you wanted to know more about SEO, what did you do? You will certainly type “SEO” on your search engine. Then, search result will show you a list of web pages most relevant to the words you typed. By instinct, you will click the one rank highest without scrolling down to find out more. Now, this is what SEO can do for you --- by targeting keywords that many people use in search engine, you can bring in more visitors to your website. The more frequent and the higher rank your website appear in the search result lists, the more traffic you gain to your website. SEO cannot promise you to rank highest, all the time , but only a way to improve your ranking. (Click to read about some simple SEO tips to optimize your website.)

Factors to be considered

In order to optimize your website, factors to be considered are:
  1. the favourite search engines of your target visitors
  2. what others search for
  3. the keywords that people will type (related to your website)
  4. how search engine works
  5. the content of your website and also the coding of the HTML.
  6. Backlinks or inbound links (when people cite your website, it can help to increase the visibility of the website as well.)
As many irresponsible webmasters, who understand how SEO works, have violated the use of keywords on their website, search engines has adapted to ensure only the most relevant search result is shown. Content with keywords without complete sentences will be detected and it may cause your website to be blocked from appearing on the search results.
Since SEO is getting common, SEO company and SEO consultant are available to people who find it complicated. But, beware of the company that you employ. It is good to know what technique they use to optimize your website. Overly aggressive technique, like spamming links, can cause your website to be banned.
